The Wedding Trip Begins Tonight

I am getting really excited for my trip to Oklahoma. I have alternated between dreading it and being excited but I think the excitement has finally won out. The drive is what I have been dreading. I have only driven it on my own two other times. Once was the year after we moved down here and my husband bought a used car while we were up there so I had to drive one car back. I followed him so I wasn't exactly alone. The second time was two years ago when my husband's grandfather died. Scott had flown up to be with him in the end and he called me at three in the morning (I was still up working on a school paper) to tell me he had just passed. I tried to get some sleep but ended up laying awake until 5 then packing the car and waking the kids up. I had been up since 5 the morning before and to make it worse, I had to tell the kids their great-grandfather had died so they were really upset. It was a difficult trip but my husband needed me and I wanted to be there as quickly as possible. This time we are excited to make Carl a part of our family and it is a happy occassion.
This morning I loaded my cd changer with our favorite cds and brought some extras. My cd changer holds 6 cds and the stereo holds one then I have a few extras and my kids are each bringing their favorites. Singing along will help pass the time. We are leaving around midnight/1 am so we should get pretty far before rush hour hits. I planned it this way for a few reasons. I really want to go to the rehearsal and dinner afterward to be a part of some of the wedding preparations. So I need to be there by 5 and it is a 13 hour trip. No one is going to be mad if I don't make it in time but I also wanted to make a majority of the trip during daylight hours. Especially when navigating the cities (San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City). This way I will spend the dark hours between the Valley and San Antonio and get to my mom's before dark.
I charged my camera so I can get a lot of pictures. The kids and I are treating this like an adventure. It doesn't matter that they have been making the trip at least twice per year since they were born and I have been making it for the past 13 years, it is an adventure to drive it on our own. I just need to relax, make smart choices, and have fun with my kiddos.
So I will be MIA for a few days but I promise to post some pictures when I get back. Especially pictures of my dress that I have worked so hard to fit into. I was the only one in the bridal party that was able to fit into the oddly sized dress without alterations. I swear they used the wrong sizing chart for their "American sizes" because there is no way the dress I have is an 18. More like a 16 but that is okay because it looks amazing! I hope you all enjoy your weekend and I look forward to catching up and sharing my weekend adventure when I get back!
