How I "treated" Myself for My Birthday
Sunday, October 10, 2010
Yesterday was my birthday and I wanted to "treat" myself. In the past that would have meant throwing out everything I knew about good nutrition and just eating anything and everything in sight...and lots of it! Because it was MY BIRTHDAY and I deserved it!!! I reasoned that one day of eating with reckless abandon wouldn't hurt me, I could always get back on the wagon tomorrow. But the wagon always left without me.
This year I decided that I deserved something better. Some of things that I have treated myself with on past birthdays are macaroni and cheese, key lime pie, chocolate birthday cake with chocolate ice cream, and lots of candy. So, what could possibly be better than that???
Treating myself with dignity and respect....that's what!!! It feels better than any forbidden food could ever taste. Instead of treating myself to lots of sugary, fat-ladened treats that would only make me feel miserable and guilty the next day, I filled my body with 99% healthy foods that gave me strength and energy and made me feel soooooo gooooood!
And, today, I don't just feel good, I feel GREAT and proud. And my scale gave me a belated birthday present...minus 1 pound on my morning weigh in.
1) 1/2 of a Breakfast parfait of yogurt, fruit and granola
2) Almonds and raisins
3) Chinese Buffet
4) Mongolian BBQ of all veggies, 3 grape tomatoes, 6 boiled shrimp and my birthday "treat" 2 small pieces of peanut chicken.
5) 2 slices of turkey, 1 c. watermelon chunks
6) Apple and, since it WAS my birthday, I had chocolate almond butter instead of regular.
For my day after my birthday fun, I am going to use my coupon for a free Birthday dinner at Boizao Brazilian Steakhouse. This will be a little tougher because there are so many choices but I am going to "treat" myself to only healthy foods because I deserve it!
1) Yogurt & oatmeal with cinnamon
2) Tomato soup with brown rice
3) Cucumbers and hummus
4& 5) Healthy choices at the Brazilian Steakhouse.
6) Apple & peanut butter
This was a memorable birthday and I am looking forward to an even more memorable year!
