So, I tried something new today..

All this 5K talk got to me today. It's been forever since I have even attempted to try to run. Today I decided to give it a try. It really wasn't so bad, wore me out, made my heart feel like it was pounding out of my chest and made me sweat like crazy... and I wasn't even running.. For 30 minutes I switched up power walking and jogging in place. I walked to the count of 100, which was really a fifty count then jogged in place to the count of 100, which was really a fifty count. It wasn't so bad, was a nice change for me and I think after a few days of this I will jog more and walk less. When I was much younger, much thinner and much healthier I used to go to a local park. There were poles around the park the same distance apart all the way around. I would go to the park and walk the distance between two poles then jog it. After a while I walked two then jogged 3 until I was able to make it all the way around the park.. And when I made it all the way around, I quit! :) I was young, okay, I had better things to do.
For a few days now, I have been trying to think of ONE thing that I want to do more than anything in the whole world. Besides, losing weight to be healthy and to boost my self esteem, ONE thing I want to do is to go swimming. It has been forever since I have been in a pool. The biggest reason is because of my very LARGE SIZE. So, one goal I have is to lose enough weight to feel good about being in something I can swim in. :) When I was a kid I used to go swimming all the time, I was a darn good swimmer. I want to swim. Today I spent a little bit of time looking on line and in the phone book for places in my area I might be able to take some water aerobics or something but everything is way out of my budget, or the program is for seniors or for kids... Doesn't anyone have a water aerobics class for a 52 year old woman who wants to be healthy... ?

I'm a fat runner hahaha Well, I think I'm running, but people can walk faster than I run ahhaha I used to worry about what people thought and then I realized, *Hey, I may be fat, but at least I'm doing something about it* Started off running the track at the school, then walking to other neighborhoods and running where I didn't know anyone, and now I can run anywhere! I bet you could probably get into the Senior class,and you might not even be the youngest one there :) Call them

You know what?? With your attitude, you can bet you will be jumping in a swimming pool again! You have the detemination and desire to meet your Spark goals.

Here's what I say to the swimming - just do it! Swimming is a great form of exercise. Yes, I often joke about how I look quite like a beached whale while I'm swimming, or getting out of the pool, but then I remember that I'm doing this for me. I'm not there to make a show for the others around the pool.
Also, they have water aerobics at my gym. I'm 29. Yes, I've been out there with the blue-haired women doing it with them. Some of them were showing me up! Besides, they didn't care that I was half their age (or more!) they were there getting fit just like me.
There's a little song I know...*ahem* just keep swimming, just keep swimming...Yeah, Dory from Finding Nemo.
Really that song applies to your running too. I'd have to re-write it for myself, though...just keep breathing just keep breathing. That's my biggest trouble with running. I ALWAYS forget to breathe.

I'm so proud of you...this is exactly how it starts-little steps that lead to bigger steps and before you know it you'll be running around the block. Who cares what anyone thinks?!?! What is funny is that you'll inspire other people just by doing it. When me and mom first started walking and then running out in front of our house I was a little embarrassed about all my parts jiggling around until one day I noticed our neighbor outside doing the same thing....and then another neighbor. He stopped mom and told her that we had inspired him. It WILL be the same for you-I know it. Way to push yourself...keep it up!

Thats awesome that you are training to run! Then by Sept when we meet again, you can join us in a race!
And you should sign up for the senior citizen water aerobics! I did with my Mom at her retirement condo, and it was a blast! If you can find something like that that you could afford, I would do it now! Don't wait. It would be great for you now!

I love the idea about the poles at the park, when I lose a little more I am going to try this at my park, we have light poles that are spaced apart like this on the walking trail. My knees will thank me to wait just bit more, but thanks for the idea!!
