Half Marathon Training - Week 1 Review

Monday, October 04, 2010

I am off to a good start in prep for my half marathon! I was able to get in a bunch of good workouts and actually - yep - you guessed it - RAN!!! Lacking this week were my yoga workouts - so am going to incorporate that more THIS week!

Here was my original goals for last week and where I ended up is in ( ):

***Week 1 (Sep 27 - Oct 3)***
GOAL: RUN 8-9 miles total
(Actual was 11.9)

Mon - OFF
(ended up running 0.7 miles with Rex)

Tue - Yoga 6am - gym 1 hour evening for cardio run min 2 miles
(Yoga at 6am and ran 1.8 miles)

Wed - Sculptworks 6am - no workout in evening
(no Sculptworks class, ran 0.7 miles)

Thur - Yoga 6am - gym 1 hour evening for cardio run min 2 miles
(no Yoga, ran 2 miles and got RAINED ON!)

Fri - Spin class 5:30am or Gym evening for cardio run min 2 miles
(ran 0.7 miles)

Sat - Take a day Off or a hike with Rex early AM before heat!
(ran 2 miles - should have been 3 but it got toooo hot)

Sun - Yoga and gym workouts – need to do 3 miles
(ran 2.5 miles at the gym and lifted)

Evaluation of my first week: My running is good but not great. I can run my milleage without stopping at this point - but am getting bored. I tried to mix up where and how I ran between different routes and the gym. This week I am going to focus on getting more milleage into less days as opposed to spreading it out over 7 days!

I have had minor pain in both my ankles and my left shin. Last year I suffored from shin splints and plantar fascitits in both ankles. I am hoping increased stretching and Yoga will help those ailments this time around along with a proper training program!

Week 2 goals:
RUN 9-10 miles total

Mon - Track workout. Sprints and stadium stairs
Tue - Yoga 6am - off in the evening
Wed - Sculptworks 6am - Evening 2 mile walk with Rex
Thur - Yoga 6am - Loop from home -3 miles and a gruesome hill
Fri - Off -
Sat - Hike 5 miles or swap for my workout on Sunday
Sun - Yoga and run a 4 mile loop (probably from Heritage Park)
** Potentially may swap my Sat and Sun workouts
