Eat but don't chew. Hmmmm.

Friday, October 01, 2010

Do you know how hard that is? To eat but not chew on anything (or much of anything, anyway). The last couple of days my top row of teeth havn't "fit in" with my lower set. They were misaligned. For the most part, you can live like that, until you go to open your mouth to put something in it - or to yawn. That was just nasty, not being able to yawn. Since the top & bottom were out of alignment, the "hinge" function of the jaw didn't work. So, I went to see my handy dandy chiropractor. He was able to put his finger in between my right ear and my lower jaw bone it had fallen so far. He popped it back in and sent me on my way.

It really was a pretty simple little procedure, but now I'm dealing with the aftermath of having it out in the first place. I can't eat anything that would irritate it or pop it back out. Nothing too crunchy (apples, nuts). Nothing sticky (gum). Nothing tough (meat) or chewy (P90X bar). Nothing too big in size (Subway). Hmmm. So, for lunch, a banana I guess.

Actually, it's really not all that bad, I just found it funny when I stopped into a gas station and wanted just a little something to snack on. Nothing. Everything I looked at fell into a category I really couldn't take a chance on (or was so unhealthy I wouldn't eat). I came out with a banana, again. And tonight we'll be eating out. I'm hoping the restaurant has something pretty soft (won't be ordering steak!) Maybe I should take a banana with me! LOL

My jaw was "misaligned" after dental work---when I called the dentist, he referred me to a jaw specialist, who, sight unseen, told me I'd need surgery. That's when I discovered the wonders of Chiropractic! (oh, and a new dentist!). I'd suggest broiled fish and rice for dinner tonight---very little chewing required!

It's a talent, Michele! I actually did it sleeping, probably. I guess it can happen when we grind our teeth as we sleep, but I never thought I ground my teeth. But I do know that I've been sleeping REALLY soundly lately.

How did you 'misalign' your teeth/jaw?? I can honestly say I've never heard of that before! emoticon

Hope you get over it soon!
