Pondering My 6 Months on SparkPeople - It's All About Perseverance

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Today is my six months Spark-A-Versary. I don't know if that's how they spell it but that's what I'm going with.

I was thinking of how in the six months I have lost about 16 pounds. Is that where I wanted to be no. But it is better than where I was. And not only have I lost the 16 pounds but I've made friends that I would never have gotten to make. The support on this site has been more than I could ever have hoped for!

I was leaving a message on another person's page who started the same time I did. And while I was leaving the message I started looking through people who I had saved as friends that joined SparkPeople the same time I did. At least 1/3 are not posting or updating their page and have not been for several weeks or months.

So even though I may not have lost as much weight as I wanted to the first six months, I am still here. I am still checking in every day, tracking my food and exercise and weight, be it good or bad. And it dawned on me I have perseverance! I found this quote:

"Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go. ~William Feather

The pounds are coming of slow, but steady. I'm exercising more, eating somewhat better. I'm hanging on. Success will be mine.

And to my Spark Friends - keep hanging on with me! We will be successful together! I also hope for those that have quit checking in or posting that they are finding success in another way. Or that they will find their way back to SparkPeople and can hang on with the rest of us!

Have a great day! And Happy Spark-a-versary to me! Here's to Perseverance!

Great job. I started about 6 months ago and I agree. There are so many people I started with that are no longer around. I hope they're doing well on their own.

You've stuck with it and are better for it. Keep headed in the right direction! Every step is worth it.

    Debbie,

So very glad that you have stuck with us and more importantly yourself! While the weight loss is not where you would like it to be it is slow and steady which means it has a better chance of staying off! You have done a great job and are a wonderful spark-friend. What you are doing is agreeing with you so just keep at it and you will be where you want to be in no time at all.

    Happy Spark-a-versary!

    Make it a great day!

Happy Spark-a-versary to you indeed, Debbie! Congratulations on your perseverance and thanks for being an encourager of others!

Your post echoes a verse I have on the wall over my computer desk: "Look well to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you." 1 Tim 4:16.
