Don't get trampled!

Thursday, September 23, 2010

I ran my first race since the spring on Saturday. The first time I've run outdoors in a while. I've gotten a little too attached to the treadmill and I'm not ashamed to admit it. It's sitting there in the air conditioned gym with my fan, my water bottle, my tv. Ok, so I like a controlled environment. I ran this 4 miler with no outside preparation along with 1800 of my closest friends, er, total strangers. My main concern was not being trampled but this race was so organized there was no chance of that. We were placed in 'waves' and anyone not preparing for the Olympics was with me in Wave 3. I've run about a dozen 5Ks and I could tell where the 5K line was. That last mile was really a challenge. But it was at night which I love, plenty of spectators rooting us on... I really enjoyed the experience. My thighs on the other hand were grimacing for several days. Next race in 8 days!
