the slowest weight loss ever...

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

It is really hard not to be disappointed at 14 pounds in 4 months. Really? I have been exercising 4 -5 times a week, drinking water, and eating well. I have to admit that I stopped recording my calories but i was always within my allotment and it seemed pointless. My DH tells me I am gaining muscle. I want to lose pounds. I know I shouldn't be hung up on the scale but I think that is easier to say when you weigh 150. I am going to keep plugging away here but the scale needs to move. At some point, I have to stop gaining muscle. Otherwise, I would look like a female Hercules and that isn't the look I am going for. I do feel better. For now, I guess I will have to be content with that. Still, I keep thinking of that old Billy Crystal skit...."It is better to look better than to feel better."

This is one of the toughest parts of any routine. You need to remember that you didn't put the excess weight on overnight, and you won't lose it overnight, either. Stay strong in your resolve, and stick to the plan. You will reach your goals.

Good things come to those who wait. But, in the meantime... My trainer ;) told me that can't just run and go to spinning classes because I need lean muscle throughout my body that will burn calories even at rest when I'm not working out. Now, I do realize that trainers make no money if all you do is cardio, but maybe you can add some strength training at home. Also, I have found that my portions creep up when I'm not logging my food somewhere. Even when I think I'm being good, I eat more when I'm not tracking. Return to basics and track those calories!!! And, last but not least, 14 pounds in 4 months is fantastic! Quick fixes don't work and don't last. I think "don't worry about the number on the scale" and "muscle weighs more than fat" are both BS lines that we tell ourselves to feel better. The truth is that you want to lose slowly because you don't want to have to lose it again next year. Love you!
