First Run with Forerunner!

Friday, September 03, 2010

I love it! Its a little intimidating to use at first because there are so many (awesome) features. But once I read through the manual and played around with it, I more or less figured out how to work it. I plugged it into my computer and made an account at www.connect.garmin.com which allows you to upload workouts (and is a little fancier than the default software). I pre-programmed today's workout, so it automatically told me when to warm-up, run, and cool down. Plus you can set an ideal pace and it lets you know if you're slacking a little (which I did, haha). The heart rate is a little hard to read, since its so small, but I think I can change that- or at least add it to one of the main screens. The only thing that caught me off-guard was that the mileage included the WHOLE run...so when it got to my set mileage for running, I thought it was over- but I still had another .25 to go. Not the end of the world, but it toys with your mind-game a little :)

Anyway, here's a summary of today's workout:

DISTANCE- 3.19mi
TIME- 55:08
CALORIES- 295
AVG PACE- 16:16 (needs work, I know)
BEST PACE- 12:31
AVG HR- 153bpm (which is EXACTLY my Target Heart Rate!)
MAX HR- 174bpm

There's more info, but its not really important for here- plus there are tons of little maps and things to play with as well as sections to see overall reports and set goals!!

LOVING IT!!!!!!!!!!! emoticon

I got my 305 a couple of months ago, and I didn't know it did all that! haha I will definitely have to look into that for the many training runs I have coming up for my first half marathon.

    Happy running!

Awesome! My HRM (a Garmin FR60) revolutionized my runs, and I'm still loving it 5 months later. Good luck with yours!

I bought one about 6 months ago, but have not taken the time to figure out all the bells and whistles yet. I really need to take the time. But I do love it for measuring my distance, time and pace. I have to figure out the heart rate monitor to, and have never used it but am going to get the book out again. I didn't realize the web page had more stuff than what came on the cd. I'm going to have to check that out.

Oh boy am I green with envy that you got one of those. I've been wanting one, but just don't have the $250 in my budget. I'm glad to get a real-life review...now I know for sure that it is just as awesome as I had hoped! I'm going to have to start a ForeRunner fund and maybe by the end of the year I will be able to buy one, too.

Good luck and keep on running!
