A Gentle Rain

Thursday, September 02, 2010

We had a nice gentle rain today. We needed it. The garden was getting dry.

I put some food out for the turtles and one sneaked up and ate it while I wasn't looking. I found another turtle in the compost pile eating.

I saw the momma deer and her baby. She was tired and waited for me to walk by. She had found a good place to rest and kept it. No need to have to flee from some unarmed old lady. LOL.

Hubby and I picked some more peppers and squash today. We found some more squash growing out of the compost pile too - acorn and butternut. I had to kill 3 gigantic tomato horn worms. ICK. They ate 3 of my pepper plants.

I'm still trying to catch up on emails.

I did a bunch of batch cooking today so I should have some leftovers for part of the long weekend. I have tons of slaw, pickled cucumbers, and mixed berries ready now.

As you know I read a lot of blogs and sometimes I come across one that blows my socks off. This one blew my socks off.

Another great blog. Yes your compost pile does seem to attract lots of attention.

I didn't know tomato worms ate pepper plants.

The mama deer knows you, I think. Our turkeys know that Dingo and I mean them no harm now, too. I just hope it doesn't lull them into a false sense of security around humans. Turkey season starts soon.

Good heavens--thank you for linking to JJ's blog! I read that one and then just kept on reading. Did you read "A Conversation with Bob"? I'm going back to reread these!

We had thunderstorms move through this evening. Temp dropped about 20 degrees in an hour. It sounds like you had a nice day.
