Getting a hold of my fats/sodium

Thursday, September 02, 2010

Ive started back putting down all that I eat. I am really good with my calories but the fat and sodium numbers are killing me. These need to get under control in order to lose the weight and keep my HBP under control.

    Hi Colette,

I totally understand where you are coming from with having to control the fats and sodium in a diet. I find that I am like you, in that I am great with staying within my caloric range BUT, I've discovered that all those non-fat/low-fat foods carry lots of sodium because they are trying to make up for the lack of taste when they got rid of the fat. Therefore, I do a lot of label reading in the grocery stores now. At first, I was just looking for the values for calories, fats, and carbs. However, now I have to take into serious consideration the salts in my diet due to me possibly having to deal with high blood pressure. Hypertension and high blood pressure run in my family and I saw what my father went through... I DO NOT want to go through the same health issues.

I'm wishing you much success in your journey and your goals. Make sure to remember to read labels and take things in moderation...something I always have to remind myself about.
