Exercise makes all the difference

I called my doctor today because of some dizziness. My blood pressure is going low again and making me tired and dizzy. The doctor has submitted a new prescription that is a regular water pill and at the lowest level they make! WOO-HOO! This is the second time in 3 months that the doctor has lowered my prescription.

I give all the credit for this progress to my regular exercise program. Specifically, exercises done with the Wii. I have exercised regularly for the past 10 years. I will confess that in the past year or two, the dvd's and video tapes were not motivating. I found myself making excuses to skip a workout and was not increasing my level of fitness. My outside walking had fallen off as well. Due to some safety concerns walking alone has become unappealing. The summers here in the south are brutal. This is one of the hotter summers since we moved here. Coming off of my hypothyroid diagnosis and the weight gained from it, I was finding my health getting a lot worse and fast.

March of this year changed all of that. My husband and I bought a Wii. I had used Wii games at the in-laws before, and knew it was fun. What I did not anticipate ( but hoped for) was what a good workout could be had through the games. I started with Wii Sports, Wii Walk it Out and Wii My Fitness Coach. My Fitness Coach provided a well rounded workout that gave a fitness test every 10 workouts. This helped me see the progress being made. Wii Walk it Out got me enjoying my walking workouts again. Due to weather, fear of crime, and other factors, my walking had taken a back seat to light aerobic videos. Walk it Out changed all of that. I started in April doing the few songs that are unlocked right away, and making it to 30 minutes. The speed of music changed frequently, which gave a good well rounded walk. Soon I unlocked new songs and found myself walking for an hour or more. My fitness level increased rapidly, with the encouragement of both games.

I have since added Wii Fit Plus, Wii Ea Sports Active More Workouts, Wii Just Dance, Wii Gold's Gym Cardio and other active games. I have purchased a heart rate monitor to have an accurate count of the calories being burned during my workouts. I have increased my workouts to include some jogging. I now Walk it Out at mostly a running pace and do the running workouts on Wii Fit. I feel stronger and healthy.

While the scale may be slow to show weight loss, I know that my health has improved 100%! Find what will motivate you and keep at it.
