Fair food

Friday, August 27, 2010

Hubby and I are hoping to go to the county fair tomorrow. I wish we could go all day, but we can’t. Instead, we plan to go around 4pm. There’s a concert we hope to see that starts at 7:30pm. So, that gives us three-and-a-half hours to mill about, go on some rides, and eat.

Yes, we’re going to eat fair food. Good news is that tomorrow is my “calorie free day”. Bad news is that fair food is not all that healthy for us.

My only worry is that I’ll overdo it. I know there are one or two things I’m looking forward to splurging on that I haven’t had since last time we were at the fair, but it’s in the midst of all the other tempting stuff. I’ll probably want to splurge on several things.

I think I told hubby last week about bringing our own food…so that we don’t stuff ourselves silly on the fair food. But he said something to the effect that we only go to the fair once a year. So why not splurge, right?

I guess it can’t hurt, in the long run. We’ll have fun regardless. And we’ll get lots of walking in.

Anyway, what I love about our county fair is that the parking, admission, rides, exhibits, and the concert are only going to cost us $30. We just pay $15 each and everything is included…except food, games, and a few other things. This is going to be so much fun.

I hope all is well with you.

Take Care!

My only advice is, eat only what you love! Then really enjoy, savor, eat it slowly! Go and have fun!

We are going to the fair tomorrow as well...and I while I will be limited because of my gluten intolerence...I totally agree with your husband. It's once a year so should let yourself go within reason. Having a regular meal that you wouldn't normally eat should be fine. Just be careful not to overdo on EVERYTHING. I also split things with my husband which help keep us both in check.

You know, in most cases (restaurants, street vendors, snack machines...)I would say, "Just say no!" but in this I agree with your husband in that it is ONCE a year! My suggestion is to pick one or two things that you love most of all that are ONLY available at the fair and stick with those. If you've been doing well on most other days for a while, chances are you'll be satisfied with just that. As long as you're mindful about it and not "mindless" (ha ha!) when enjoying those items then I think you'll do just fine! Enjoy yourself at the fair and get lost in those moments. In the long run, that's what it's all about. Hope you have fun!
