Why I'd rather run in the morning

There are lots of reasons why I'd rather run in the morning, not the least of which is the fact that a run is just a great way to start the day. Other things are the temperature and the fact that my kids are still asleep. I was reminded of just how much I prefer the morning on my run last night. I had planned a morning run but my partner bailed due to light rain and it was still too dark to go it alone on our trail (in said partner's defense, I didn't argue and went back to sleep for 2 hours).

*1 mile in I had to, y'know, go. This never happens on my lovely morning empty stomach. ;) Thank goodness for a decent portapotty on the trail.

*Soon after, my phone (which I have to carry in case of kid emergencies) rang. This was actually the second phone call of my run, but I digress. It was my daughter's softball coach wondering where we were. I had missed a message about practice. I assured him I would get her there ASAP, but kept running. Made mental adjustments for a shorter run.

*Finished 5 miles (while answering a third phone call) and jumped in the car to get my daughter, who was in tears over being late for practice once I clued her in. Rushed her to practice an hour late and then hit the road again.

*I was a little over a mile away from my car when the phone rang again. My son's football practice had finished an hour early and I needed to go pick him up.

Notes to self - car trips between segments of a run interrupt the flow and create need for extra yoga. Phone calls during runs create need for extra contortions getting phone out of tight pocket in skort, also creating need for extra yoga. Runs with car trip and phone call interruptions make me crabby and snipey with the kids, also creating a need for extra yoga.

Will definitely stick with my quiet morning runs whenever possible!
