To HCG or not to HCG that is the question.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS and my OBGYN suggested I do the HCG diet he had done it and lost weight. I just don't know what to do. I admit I am a little scared of the diet because of my PCOS. I have not felt well for quite a while and think it is linked with my PCOS but, at the same time I am concerned if I dont do the diet my PCOS is just going to get worse and I am just going to continue to get bigger because I know that PCOS is thought to cause weight gain and I was tested and it showed I had insulin resistance which is also part of my PCOS if I understand correctly. I have also considered weight lose surgery but my insurance is only going to pay for it until December so if I am going to do it I need to hurry up but, it is such a serious thing and then I dont know what I want gastric bypass or the lap band. I want something that is going to work for me.

The weight loss that comes from the HCG diet is the 500 cal intake a day. This is not considered healthy under any circumstances unless closely medically supervised. I am a medical professional and have heard many well meaning colleagues give very poor advise. For any diet- your first question should be- can I do this for the next 20 yrs. This is not about a diet but a complete change to a healthy lifestyle of eating right and activity. Fast weight loss does not work v

emoticon I have heard a lot of great things about HCG. Yahoo has groups that you can join for free that will give you support. If you decide to go this route. If you elect to have surgery-do your research. I have thought about surgery as well. But, I was more thinking about lap band surgery. So, it is really up to you and what you want. Good luck in your decision.

While I agree that your health care professionals are the best resource, I have to question the recommendation. HCG is not healthy. I suggest you read up on the potential adverse effects of this 'diet' which uses deprivation that can actually be dangerous - and which focuses on short term, extreme weight loss that cannot be sustained over time - the opposite of working to build a strong and healthy body that will support you through your life.
