Rest, Recovery, Renewal

Thanks, sparkfriends, for the lovely messages, notes, questions, and well-wishes. I'm finally starting to feel a bit back to normal after a rough go last week! I had a minor surgery that laid me out, but I'm recovering just fine and should be back in top form this week. :-)

The upside is that my knee has also been forced to rest, and it's feeling pretty great--some days it even feels NORMAL! I'll be off my feet for the rest of this week, but I'm hoping in another week to ten days that I'll be incorporating some walking, swimming, and other low-impact stuff. I'm determined to lay off the running for a little longer still.

In my downtime, I was able to do lots of reading and researching about my knee issue. Also, I had my husband take video of me running at the gym the week before I put the squash on it, and the video has given me TONS of insight about what I need to do to ensure I don't get injured again. Without getting into all of the details, which are interesting only to me since it's MY knee lol, I can't emphasize enough the importance of not only a GOOD pair of shoes, but the RIGHT pair of shoes. I'm a moderate overpronator who never realized she put 500 miles on two pairs of quality running shoes cut for UNDERpromators. Sheesh. And I thought I was on top of things!

Anyway, staying positive, riding the waves of emotions that come up from being back to a pretty sedentary lifestyle (I keep telling myself, "It's temporary, it's temporary, it's temporary."), living with the amazement of how quickly body image issues can rear their heads, and learning the lessons that come up from it all. It's been an interesting and challenging leg of the journey, but just a leg of it. I'm looking forward to being well-rested for fall running on my favorite trail, leaves changing colors, cool breezes. I'm ready! Or at least getting there. :-)

    Glad to hear you're recovering and feeling good about your knee. Good luck finding the perfect shoes once you're ready to hit the road again . . . hopefully that helps protect your knees from future injury.

    Having your hubby make a video of you running is a great idea. You can see your form and analyze it and see how you're coming down on your feet and your knees. I'm glad to hear that you're kicking back and letting your knee heal with some rest time. I know it's been a thorn in your side and I hope it's on the mend and once it's healed you'll be able to take it back to the treadmill (or streets) and put some more miles on your feet. Stay strong!

    i am glad that if u had to be laid up it was right at the hottest time! i stayed inside fri and sat, a bit of strength fri and a light 15 min bike sat...i headed outside again last nite, sunday, i was thankful to be out, that it wasnt as hot, still too humid to get my run on but i enjoyed a long slowish walk and felt pretty renewed just from a cpl light nites, might be wise for me to cycle in one at the end of every week or something, gonna keep playin with the idea of rest, thats for sure, thanks for helping us all learn thru your own learning curve ;)
