We All Have Our Demons

Sunday, August 15, 2010

Having been a member of SP for over a year now, I have read numerous blogs. As I read a few this past weekend, here are the demons I discovered about fellow sparkers:

1) having the ready made frosting in the house
2) going out for drinks with friends
3) an open bag of chips (not the single serving size)
4) Ben and Jerry's ice cream in the freezer
5) an open bag of candy (once again, not the individual size)

We all have a diet habit that we have yet to conquer. I don't believe that we ever fully conquer it, but rather learn what motivates us to turn to our demons, and deal with the demon in a more productive manner.

If asked to pinpoint my demon, I would say portion size is what I will be fighting for the rest of my life. I know what the right amount of food is, I just don't want to stop. So I work on my habit of eating smaller amounts, chewing slower, taking time between bites, using smaller plates, etc. But I feel that this monkey on my back isn't going away any time soon.

So take comfort in the fact that we all have some weakness, some demon, that we have to contend with, sometimes on a daily basis. Take comfort in the fact that there are so many on here to help you when you are at a low point. And give yourself a pat on the back, knowing you will use the knowledge and habits you've developed since using this site to help an unknown friend.

Nasty little emoticon Mine is out of the blue bingeing. Comes on like a Texas tornado and then it's gone. But the damage is done!

Watch for those demons. Hope we all overcome them.

I know for me, demons change. I guess once I conquer on demon, I try to get another one crossed off my list. The first step is to recognize the demons. It's an important step! emoticon Now you can go to work on portion sizes. Keep up the good work!

You are right. We all have demon's to work through. I am working on mine right now. I feel for the first time a long time. I am winning.

One of mine is portion control too. My husband has noticed that my portions have gotten smaller.

I have to say my demon is my Mother-In-Law, she is the one that keeps bringing home the sweets and the other foods that I should not eat. Although I do know I don't have to indulge myself but, when it is sitting right in front of me all I hear is "eat me eat me".
