7 Minutes 54 Seconds

Monday, August 09, 2010

Strange title - I know. But I had to type it, calculate and re-calculate to verify that this truly was my average pace per mile on my 5k race on Saturday. My official time was 24:28 which was a new PR for me. I took about 45 seconds off my previous best time.
I am speechless, or rather words cannot capture my emotions...
I did not think that when I started a year ago July that this is where I would be. Even just a few short months ago when I was encouraging my students to run 5k's with me, I was telling them that my 5k times would be around 30 minutes.

This course was hilly from mile 1 to 2, but my time was faster on that mile, than it was on the first mile which was flatter. My hubby and son both got their best times as well. My 11-yr old took 4 minutes (yes, 4 minutes) off his best time and ran it in 26:22 and my hubby who doesn't enjoy running outside, came in at 26:45. Both of them had goals to break 30. Not only did they break them, they smashed them. I was so proud of my family.

Our next family 5k is going to be on a Friday evening in Sept. The course description says it is flat and fast.

Can you hear it? I'm sending a standing ovation! Congratulations on your impressive numbers! Also, I read your blog re: your daughter's comment (freakish). Yea, I think you have the right idea. Teens can't really tell us that they think we're cool or inspiring, but turn it around -- what would she say to you if you were sitting on the couch all day eating cupcakes? This "freakish" is soooo much better! Hope you're having a good week!

I just can not believe how FAST you are! Especially for someone that has only been running a year! I can only imagine the feeling......it must feel like a "calling"??? Something that you were meant to do? Much like discovering you were supposed to teach? Excellent that your family is involved!
