Only a little more than a week til my first tri of the season. I am getting excited and a little nervous, all very normal i guess. Just did a late morning jog - too darn hot to do that any more this summer. Still not getting to bed early enough to bounce out of bed every morning like I keep promising myself.
3 weeks ago I asked a friend to swim with me out at the local park beach, since I can't very well do that alone - not safe. She had not started swimming yet this season but she joined me and we created our own mini triathlon - .6 mile swim, 8 mile bike, 2 mile approx. run. It was fun to simulate our own event and we kinda took it easy week 1 - but week 2 I took off on the bike and run and felt great after. I am ready for this sprint distance race. Tomorrow we do it again. The training is beginning to pay off. While running is still not a breeze for me, I can feel an improvement for sure. My pace is a full 2 minutes faster than last season - I may have a shot at placing in my age group this year. Woohoo! I feel those competitive juices flowing, as opposed to last year when I just was out to finish and then improve my personal bests.
And.....drumrolll please......i signed up for a HALF MARATHON! So now its time to really get serious about running training. I will work on consistency - which has improved but could get better. Also will run with the running group that i am a bit intimidated by, and start going to their track training runs. That really scares me cuz i am so slow, but the group leader told me that should be the least intimidating since they do lots of silly looking drills like kick your butt (??) ....anyway onward and upward.
November 13th is half marathon race day.... one step at a time I can do this thing.
