Goal reached... kinda

Wednesday, August 04, 2010

I set a goal to be at 12% body fat and weight 150 lbs by August 2. The actual weight was for the sake of having a target; I don't care so much about what it really comes down to. BF% was my primary aspiration.

So I did my weigh in on Monday and here are my results.

----------------Before (4/1/2010)---After (8/2/2010)
Weight------------ 163 lbs --------------- 158 lbs
BF% ---------------- 15.4% ---------------- 12.0%
BMI ---------------- 26.3 ------------------ 25.5
Navel circ -------- 36.5 in --------------- 32.0 in
Max run ---------- 0.5 mile ------------- 6.25 miles

All told, it's been a successful four months. I can run over six miles non-stop. I hit my target BF% before my Cozumel trip (leaving in 36 hrs!), and it's a very respectable number! I've lost almost five inches off the gut... but I don't see it. And that's where I'm losing motivation.

I -know- I've made significant progress. I know I have. But I look in the mirror and just see myself as fat. Funny thing is, at my least fit I never thought I was "fat". Sure, I knew I could stand to lose a few pounds (about 20 at the time) and needed to generally tone up, but not "fat". Now that I've come this far, I just can't shake it.

My buddy, who doesn't work out half as hard or regularly or ... just as -well- as I do... he managed to get his BF down to 16%, and he looks -good-. Granted, he's a good six inches taller than I am, but still! Gah.
