I am NOT a carpenter!!!

Tuesday, August 03, 2010

A few weeks ago (seems more like months) my husband decided that our back deck needed replacing, and although I asked to please leave it til next year, it got ripped out and new wood purchased. Okay. So now we have a bunch of joists with mud in between - anyone in the Edmonton, Alberta area knows the rain we have had this year - and two dogs who LOVE it! They have had a lot of baths lately.

It seems most weekends have been spent "working on the deck", which I am sure everyone is getting sick of hearing. There have been the weekends when the hubby was not feeling well enough, or the weekend we went to the Edmonton INdy, so no work gets done at these times. Then there are the hotter-than-Hades weekends where we are outside sweating our brains out and making ourselves sick. Duh!! This weekend was one of those.

Now, you have to picture me sitting on a 6" wide board 7" off the ground slung across two joists first of all. Not a pretty site, with my knees up around my ears and me reaching for the hammer. Okay. Have to stand up. Knee won't work (this is the bum left knee that I hurt God knows how many years ago while hiking) and twists into a rather painful position. Oh nuts! The left hip follows and now I am in REAL pain. Try to walk it off. Just walk around a bit and see if that helps. Not too bad.

Later that evening - sat on the couch for a while watching The Bachelorette and then was stuck. Couldn't move without a dagger going through my left hip and lower back. Took a couple of Robax and slept okay. This morning, went to the Y and found I forgot my workout t-shirt. Decided to just have a shower and to shave my legs. DUMB!!!! Couldn't straighten up! Finally managed to pull myself up to a semi-upright position (enough that I could walk), and made my way back to my locker. Got dressed, and attempted to dry my hair. Raising my left arm causes tension on the left hip and - OW! So hair is still more than damp when I go to work and I am hobbling like a 300 year old.

It is now 4:15 and I going to make my way to the LRT to meet my husband in Clareview. If I leave now I may make the 4:45 train....
