Now I choose, a walk or a video game...

Every day, every hour, every minute are these intersections that determine our future. I wander through my day making my very long list and trying to multitask my way through it. The intersections for me are usually get to the paper and write down the thing I remembered I have to do before I forget it and stay on task crossing items off my list. I don't put myself on my list. It's always making the calls, kids needs, household maintenance stuff, scheduling, errands, etc. I'm the stay at home mom of complicated little people with complicated medical needs. That makes for complicated lists every day. I get exhausted and crash, I reward myself with taking a turn on facebook scrabble or a round of snood, 5-10 minute breaks. Then back to work, giggling with kids along the way, always time for a giggle. I cater to many of their whims, making sure they're happy. My scrabble is a guilty pleasure. When I really crash as I face family crisis that persist, I stuff my mouth with candy or some other 'filler'. The intersections happen as I complete a task and cross it off and prepare to move on to next task. As I worked my list I remembered, I'm shifting. I went to take a break (the baby is napping) after working nonstop for almost 4 hours and thought, it's an intersection, I could take a walk instead, ....that's how I've changed my life before, get conscious of the intersections and the choices I make at them, put myself on the now I quite writing (cramping) and try a short walk (still healing from reinjured ankle) and stretching - get in that 10 minutes, just 10 minutes for me, that is so incredibly hard and intellectually I know it shouldn't be! My head goes, "but the list, so much to do...." I would take a 10 minute video game break...I forget that the walk, the stretch, make me FEEL great, way better than a quick fix game. It's like I have to get readdicted to the FEEl of moving. Then I'll be home, home in my body, my life, my soul, it will all be easier. Bye, I'm off for a walk and a stretch. emoticon
