Half-Marathon Training Check-in

Monday, July 26, 2010

Well, the good news is that I'm still flippin' running! I'm feeling pretty proud of myself that I've stuck to my running schedule and was really excited that I ran 9 miles without stopping on Sunday. I'm even more proud that I'm still getting up at 6:30 am and running when I'd much rather sleep in. This in and of itself is quite a feat for me during the Summer when I don't have anything to do! I LOVE sleep!

To be honest with you, other than my calves feeling a bit sore and some mild cramping in my left one, I'm not experiencing any problems yet. I'm considering new shoes because I bought my last pair in April. Now that I'm doing 20+ish miles a week, I'm thinking it's definitely necessary to actually be good to my feet and get new shoes like it's suggested.

Here's the rest of the schedule:
This week: 60 mins Tues, 50 mins+sprint strides Th, 6 miles Saturday
August 1: 60 mins Tues, 50 mins+sprint strides Th, 10 miles Saturday
*August 8: 60 mins Tues, 60 mins+sprint strides Th, 12 miles Saturday
*August 15: 60 mins Tues, 60 mins+sprint strides Th, 13 miles Saturday
*August 22: 60 mins Tues, 60 mins+sprint strides Th, 14 miles Saturday
*August 29: 60 mins Tues, 60 mins+sprint strides Th, 10 miles Saturday
*Sept. 5: 40 mins Tues, 40 mins+sprint strides Th, 5 miles Saturday
*Step 12: 30 mins Tues, 30 mins+strides Th, 20 mins. Saturday, Sunday: Half-Marathon

*These represent weeks that are going to be challenging for me. I officially start back Aug 10 to school, which means I'm going to have to get up around 4:30-5am to get my morning runs in. I'm really going to need some encouragement these weeks!

Wow, a 1/2 Marathon, that's great! I'd like to do a 5K in the fall, I've never been a runner and I'm looking in the "Couch to 5K" program. Of course, I wouldn't be doing the 5K for speed, just for completion. :)

Good for you. Perseverance builds endurance. You'll do fine. Running has never been my thing. I walk and ride my bike. Keep at it.
