Quinoa

I responded to a poll today. The question was have you ever eaten quinoa? I have never heard of this. What is it? Where can you buy it? What is the nutritional value?

I love quinoa! I think it's one of the best grains and very versatile (and healthy!). Like BookoWl said, it's full of protein, fiber and easy to cook. If you like tabouleh, it's a great substitute for couscous. I've noticed that it's becoming easier to find. If you have a Trader Joe's nearby, for sure you can find it there, otherwise I'd bet that most large grocery stores will carry it. Good luck!

ooooh, quinoa (keen-wa) - it's a whole grain that provides complete protein, too - you can get it at larger grocery stores or health food stores. It cooks like rice, but doesn't take as long as brown rice does - if you buy the 'quick-cooking' kind, you're looking at 5-15 minutes, depending on the directions.
I use it as a base for anything that you'd put over rice, like a stir-fry, or in summery salads (like quinoa, chickpeas, olives, and shredded carrots in a vinagrette dressing) - give it a try!
