Unexpected Saturday Fun!

Sunday, July 25, 2010

My Saturday started out good. Got up early (6 AM) and took the dog for a 30 minute walk. If I am not up and walking the dog by 7:30 AM it is to hot an humid. Had all the laundry and household chores finished by 8 AM! Had planned to go shoe shopping or browsing for new fall styles that would complement the designer I rep's new fall collection which is hanging up on a rack in my living room! I wanted to go right when the store opened since the staff would have restocked the warehouse shelves. I went in to get my 17 yr old daughter up to go with me (she has a keen sense of style when it comes to shoes but you would never guess that since all you would ever see her in is either flip flops, cowboy boots or athletic shoes!) since I figured she would want to do a little Back-to-School shoe shopping now that she is no longer playing school volleyball and can actually dress up for school! She is moving at the pace of a two-toed sloth and I decide yelling at her to get up is not how I want my Saturday to go. (Most likely she was up until 4 AM texting or talking to guys...I later discover my suspicions are correct!)

Just when I'm ready to head out on my own dressed all "CAbi Cute"in a skirt, top and kitten heeled sandals, she emerges from her room and asks if she can go to one of her boy friend's house who lives 35 miles away to ride horses (he is a boy friend, not boyfriend....there is a difference you know!!!) and could I take her PLEASE!!!! (she has her own big 4X4 truck with 35" tires and a 6" lift kit on it, but still has to take her roadtest in order to have her drivers license issued....seems easy enough to do but she has been reluctant to take it and I have not pressed the issue since sadly she has had 5 of her friends killed in separate car accidents over the last few years) She wants to drive her truck up there for this guy to see, but that means I have to ride with her....(okay, I'll just shoe shop later)...and since she wants to stay a few hours to ride horses, I can just drive her truck home and come back and pick her up later since her friend's truck is in the shop. Here is where it gets fun!!! I have to climb up into this truck (the floorboard hits me just above the elbow) so I figure that should count as some sort of stretching exercise for the day! Even when I pull the seat forward so my feet can reach the pedals, I cannot lean back in the seat because then my arms can't reach the steering wheel! So I ride home sitting straight up on the edge of the seat bouncing along hoping my boobs don't accidentally honk the horn at anyone on the freeway since I'm that close to the steering wheel!! Its a good thing the windows were tinted!!! When I got home and opened the truck door my hubby just laughed at me as I tried to slide out of the truck gracefully to the ground! That didn't happen! My skirt got caught on the seat adjuster knob as I slid out and I gave the entire neighborhood a peek at my undies!

A few hours later I have to head back up there to pick her up and contemplate just taking my car, but I remembered that the dirt road leading to this boy's house was full of deep pot holes and decide that her truck is the better option. This time I am wearing jeans and my red roper cowboy boots....I'm a quick learner! The drive back to get her was fun! Now I know why she loves this truck so much (she has wanted this particular truck since the 4th grade when it belonged to her teachers boyfriend, now husband. We have remained good friends with them over the years and she even babysits their two little boys; she asked the guy to give her the option to buy it first if he ever decided he wanted to sell it and that's how we ended up with a truck before she has her license!) people move out of your way when they see you coming and even though its a 1995 it looks new and people turn their heads to look at it!
Sadly, once I arrived to pick her up she informed me to get out so she could drive home.....
Did I ever make it to shoe shop? Nope....I'll have to do that another day! But I had fun driving her truck and felt young again! And I'm sure all the bouncing around burned off a few calories right?

Sounds hysterical! I went to prom one year in a lifted truck - and I am 5 feet tall - and had a form fitting dress and it was a challenge let me tell you! Enjoy your shoe shopping when you get to do it! Have a great week this week!
