One down, two to go.

Saturday, July 24, 2010

I thought I'd write tonight instead of tomorrow as tomorrow will be a full day.

The race didn't go as well as I had thought. Yes, I did finish, with a time of 54:09. A lot slower than I wanted, but I did walk a bit more than I wanted, perhaps a kilometer worth. The first 3K were great, then I lost all energy. I think there were three things working against me: 1. the heat and humidity combo - I normally run in the morning when its cooler 2. I never run in the evening, so I wasn't used to a full stomach from eating throughout the day and 3. I forgot to bring my music!!!! I KNEW I was forgetting something when I left the house, but couldn't think what it was!!!! AAARRRGGGHHH! I need the beats when I run!!

And it was supposed to be downhill, which it was, but the grade was so slight it felt like I was going straight all the time!!! I wanted gravity to do half the work! :)

But, there are two things that I'm happy for: 1. I made a committment to finish the 8K and I did. It was a goal that I was reaching for and I acheived it. and 2. I met a couple of guys who were in town from up north, just to complete the race, (and one from yesterday!) who were both fun to talk to and very encouraging. I love when that happens, when you meet random people, never to see them again. The race sponsor, an Irish pub, were offering free food and beer afterwards, so it was a great place to socialize after the race. (sorry, nutrition tracker!)

So, overall, I had a ton of fun tonight. With new tips and encouragement from the guys, and another chip to add to my collection, it was a good day!

On to the next finish line!

WHOOO! Nice job! Heat and humidity can be a killer combination on a run - but you pushed through and finished so that's awesome! I never run with music, but I can definitely understand why it threw you off! Any change in my running routine or gear throws me off. I'm such a wimp - lol. Great job on the race!

Very good race results! 8k's are tough. It takes more wind (lung power) to run those longer distances. It took me some time to get running 8k - 10k. I added a day intervals to my weekly routine. Intervals (HIIT google it) build power and endruance in just a short 20 minute workout. It's the quickest way to get to an easy 8k. And done correctly, it will kick your ass!

I want to hear about race two!

    Keep on,
    Tony

Great job! You finished. I run a 10K every year and wonder ... will I make it up the hill this time ... but regardless if I do or don't ... I still win! I am taking care of me, setting goals, meeting them and having a great time along the way. That's a great day. It sounds like you did all of those things; set a goal, met it and had a great day. You have the rest of your journey to work on bringing down times and running the whole way. But for now, you ran the 8K. SCORE! Congrats. emoticon
