Drinks and snacks

Saturday, July 24, 2010

Last night we had neighbours from the old house over for drinks and snacks.
We had been to the new Walmart and Sams in Guaymas to get goodies and got quite a bit despite the products being quite different from up north.
I prepared most of it ahead of time and as I was sampling a few things here and there I noticed a few things:

- most of it tasted very salty to me - we've stopped adding table salt and wow what a difference

- I suddenly thought, maybe I should open that bottle of white wine and have a glass, it sounds good.
WTH??? I don't even drink white wine!! Where did that come from....???
I guess my brain must have associated some of the snacks with having a glass of wine, but why white - I've been drinking red for the last 15 years as white wine used to give me a stomach ache....
It goes to prove that the brain is a powerful aspect of what we put in our mouths.. even subconsciously.

- having snacks with company meant I had too much even when trying to have only a little and eat as slowly as possible. At least I did only drink water with a slice of lime, and tons of it.

Still we had a great time but my tummy is not happy this morning... can you say bloat??

It is strange that when you stray you really don't like the taste anymore but you suddenly start carving something else you should not have.

It sounds like you had a good time! I'm surprised to hear that Mexico has walmart and sams! That just seems so un-Mexican to me! I guess those corporations are out for the almighty dollar wherever they can find it -- even if it's in pesos! Do you pay in Mexican money there (at walmart & sams) or U.S. dollars? I'd imagine that everywhere else you have to use Mexican money.

It's always a killer when we go off schedule and put things in our bodies that we don't normally eat. Today is a new day! EAT CLEAN! emoticon
