One of the things I brought back from Italy was a massive headache that wouldn't shift. It started 2 weeks ago today and no amount of painkillers seemed to even scratch the surface. Yesterday I went to the doctor about it and he said it might be due to tense muscles or some nerve problem, and gave me some pills. he said these pills, in much higher doses, are used to treat depression but he was prescribing me a very low dosage and that should do the trick.
In the past I've had problems with anti-depressants so when I heard the word I started getting a bit nervous, and talked to a few people about it. One, a psychologist, got back to me saying that these pills were beta blockers, often prescribed to treat migraine. Someone else told me that he was prescribed them to treat tinnitus and that he did have some slight improvement but they made him so groggy that he called them the "zombie pills". The doctor himself had suggested I take them before bed as they might make me sleepy.
So it was with some trepidation that I took one last night close to bed time.
Boy, within about 15 minutes I'd started feeling my muscles relax and the headache starting to fade. I had a very good night's sleep and today I'm not even feeling too zombie-like. I still have a slight headache but nothing compared to what it was until last night.
I decided to take it easy anyway so I've just been hanging around at home not doing much. I might go for a ride in a while, but if I don't feel like it I won't beat myself up. I might even go back to bed for a doze :)
