What have you done to spread encouragement and hope today?

Good Tuesday afternoon, Sparklers! Today has been a good day for me. I have some adversity in my life and certainly some struggles - as we all have. Today I sent a letter to a very special Army Sgt that had made a new friend - another Army Sgt - only to lose him to a suicide bomber. His letter spoke of how they shared ideas to keep their soldiers safe, how they missed their families back home, and how this particular Sgt. made a GREAT cup of coffee. He spoke of how his platoon was there to send this man back to his family when they loaded his body on the chopper. He also spoke of the tears he finally shed when he was alone. I speak of this to say how honored I was to send him a letter of encouragement. To let him know that there is someone back home thinking of him - even though we have never met - and praying for his safe return. As a matter of fact, this was my first letter to this man - ever. We may never write or speak again. But I wanted him to know that there are folks that are thinking of him. This is not a testament to war - so, please no political statements - but the story of two human beings, and one needing and one giving encouragement.

I know this is a pretty heavy story to say - we all have our struggles and we all can use a word of encouragement and hope. Have you reached out to your Spark Buddies to let them know you are there for them, and you are sending good thoughts and vibes their way? The smallest gesture may lift someones day and give them the strength to get that workout in, log that meal, or make that good choice. We are a group of people that can be STRONG together. When you think that it won't matter - it probably does. Reach out today and spread a little encouragement to your fellow Sparklers! They may never say it - but they will smile and be thankful you were there.

What a blessing to a young man in the military that you acknowledged his pain and expressed in your way, your appreciation for his service.

I am sorry to say my Vietnam veteran husband, who spent three different years a year at a time in the Helicopter Air Rescue Unit, did not recieve appreciation from others. Maybe he was just taken for granted. We know the vets from that war were not thought to be doing a good thing. Not that I wanted accolades for him. Maybe even I took him for granted without realizing it. He never wrote to me of the struggles and hardship of the war so I was really unaware until just the last few years his real involvement. He did get his air metals and airmans awards from the military but it is a good thing that people like you recognize the sacrifices that our service men make so that freedom rings in this world.

One didn't see on TV much of the Vietnam struggle, until just the recent years. Perhaps that is why people today are more prone to acknowledge the sacrifices the military men make, because they see so much of it on T.V.

So thank you for helping to make up somewhat for the lack of others to give appreciation.
