Today's Mission Accomplished!!

Sunday, July 18, 2010

Yep, today was the day to try again since yesterday turned out to be a bust. We started too late yesterday (7 a.m.) and I couldn't do it. Do what? Well, the goal was to do the R/W/R for 5 full miles. The most the DH and I have done at one time. Part of the training schedule you know. So, this morning I decided I'd be up at 5 a.m. and we'd be out the door by 6 a.m. and long before my nemesis, the sun, poked her head out.

5:59 we were out the door and we began. I set a goal in my head that we should be able to do a full 5 miles in 60 minutes. That is just 12 minute miles. I felt the goal both realistic and attainable (like goals should be) and also wanted to continue with the 30 second intervals. The temp was 62 degrees with 86% humidity. With no sun, doable for me and no problem for the DH.

Understand the DH is a tall slender man who decided he too needed some exercise so when I announced I wanted to learn to run using the intervals he jumped on the bandwagon and I was thrilled. He comes along with camera in hand and when he sees something that is worthy of a photo, he stops and takes a photo and then catches up. Plus, like most men, he's a six year old. He always stops to pick up small treasures he sees. He's brought home bottle caps and stones and coins. Today it appears to be a piece of a barrette and who knows what. He's having fun, like most six year olds. LOL

Anyway I am very pleased with our performance. Goal of 60 minutes for 5 full miles met. We actually finished in 58:40. Our splits were: 11:21/11:41/11:29/12:10/11:56. I tried to push myself on the 30 seconds of running to keep things under 12 and nearly made all 5 but am very happy with how it came out. Now I'm anxious for cooler temps and trying a 5k using this method. Until then, we'll keep at it and see how it goes.

Now to finish stretching and get out and work in the yard a bit before the heat hits. What a great way to start the day!!!
