Feeling like the fat girl.

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

I'm just curious if anyone else is having this problem. I've lost like 28 lbs. since March, but it's like my mind is having a hard time keeping up with my body. I'm still shocked when I see myself in a full size mirror. More than once I've said to myself, 'Whoa! You don't have a fat back anymore!' I'm just wondering when the 'fat girl' feeling goes away. Whenever I start hating on myself for being a fatty I have to just remind myself that I HAVE lost 5+ inches from my boobs, belly, and hips. I'm a healthy size 11-12, so why do I still have a mental image of my old self?!

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that you know you were tinier once upon a time. So, even though you're smaller than you were 8 or 9 months ago, you still got that "Tiny Mina" in the back of your mind.

I think too much damage has been done to my confidence for me to ever be happy with my physical appearance (kinda rough getting the "how can u stand looking at yourself" talk from your parents at age 12). So I toss out the "I wanna be pretty" thought and focus on the fact that I want to set a good example for my boy (and future babes) and be fit and healthy.

I know for me I have seen myself fat for so long that I haven't been able to see myself skinny yet, maybe when I get to my goal weight or not. Mental strongholds is what hold us back. We are never skinny enough, or are worthy of success but we have to keep telling ourselves that we are worthy and start loving ourselves for who we are not by what we see. We see ourselves differently than what others see. Just remember you are taking back your healthy lifestyle and taking care of this body that God has loaned us while we are here.

This weight loss is so mental...I sometimes struggle with the mental part of it more then the physical! It's tough to balance...and how does one out smart thier own mind anyway? Tough questions you present!

That last question is a good one. It is likely that you have the answer inside yourself already. The answer to that question is personal and different for each person, I bet. Maybe if you live with that question, gently asking yourself that question, maybe even write about it for awhile, you may come up with the answer. That would be a healthy break through and you would feel more peace......don't you think?
    Take your time.....

I think you mind just gets used to how you used to feel. Your mind and body don't always move at the same pace. I have known some people who have lost very little weight but in their mind they feel really different.
It will come in time, your mind's image will catch up. You just need to look in the mirror more often to remind yourself how far you have come.
