From Bear Lake Trailhead
Tuesday, July 13, 2010
We got a little bit later start than I wanted so we didn't get to park at the Glacier Gorge trailhead. We started at the Bear Lake trailhead and our first stop was Alberta Falls.
We explored around it for quite awhile. My husband so wanted to follow a fall to it's top. I'm not quite that adventuresome. I'll stick to the trail thank you!!
Next we came to The Loch. Here it is from a couple miles further up the hike:
And close up:
We took a little break there and the kids stuck their feet in and also had a snowball fight in the piles of snow still left around it. It was so beautiful.
I had ordered several books from Amazon to plan the trip. I highly recommend the Rocky Mountain National Park Dayhiker's Guide by Jerome Malitz. We took it on the trail and referred to it often. We also took the National Geographic Rocky Mountain National Park Trails Illustrated Map. It's really durable and helped us a lot.
Come back tomorrow and I'll show you the really interesting hiking we got into :) I can now officially state that I am a mountain climber and a rock climber!
