Vacation Eating? Ha! Piece of Sugar Free Cake!

Monday, July 12, 2010

OMG. OMG. OMG. I'm actually losing weight. I'm actually feeling thinner. My clothes are starting to feel loser and I'm as happy as a clam. Thank you Dr. Atkins. Hopefully there's a special place in Heaven for you!

So it's the eve of the first of several summer vacations. Normally my little voices would be saying "Forget about it. I'm not skipping the foods I love on vacation. Not now - not ever." But guess what? First time EVER --- my husband and I really feel like we can pull this off. The Atkins WOE is just so damn easy that you never feel deprived. I can sit with a bunch of people eating chips and salsa and downing sugary margaritas and really, truly NOT feel like I'm being punished. Who knows why this is, it just IS!

So off I go. To the New Jersey shore -- home of the awesomest Chinese food on the Earth, incredible hoagies the size of your head, pasta, pizza, ice cream, etc. But none of that stuff is leaving the planet (not this planet at least God knows). I'll have a taste of it when I'm wearing my size 10!

Update: Back from NJ today. Official weigh-in is tomorrow, but we both snuck one in this morning just to see the status. We both gained. :( Amazingly, while everyone else was chowing down on chinese food, pasta, crumb cake, pizza and ice cream, we stuck to our WOE and both managed to gain 2 lbs! Urrrrggghhhh!!!!! We did add extra nuts, SF treats and even a couple of SF margaritas so that we wouldn't feel too deprived, but I guess it didn't work. The thing that really bums you out is the realization that you probably would have gained the same amount eating the same thing everyone else was eating - right? Double URRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!

Back to the drawing board and back to induction tomorrow! I want to keep losing!

So excited for you, and for your vacation!! I wish my husband would do a low carb WOE with me... that would make it so much easier. Right now he's the cook in the house and he likes to make tasty dishes with the carbs incorporated (like the yummy twice baked ziti we had for dinner tonight). /sigh. I'm settling for staying in my calorie ranges for right now, but I still aspire to low carb someday!

    Have fun on your trip!!!

ML - just go to atkins.com. It explains each of the 4 phases of Atkins very clearly. No need to buy the book IMO. You can also find endless websites with low-carb recipes, message boards, support groups, etc. I'm a member of the low-carb team here on SP as well. This WOE isn't for everyone, but it might be just the ticket to "unstick" you for a month and get you going in the right direction again - especially if you suspect that carbs and sugar are your main problems.

My love to you today after reading your status. I'm so sorry ML....

Okay Val ... you're convincing me. Where's the easiest place to find info on the Atkins WOE? Do you have a favorite website with menu plans? Help ... I need to get off the stuck place!
