Another abandoned kitten

Last night as I was driving into town I found another kitten someone abandoned on our lonely country road. How can people do this? We already have 2 cats and this is a kitten my dh estimates at a starving 10 wks old. It just walked out in front of the car and flopped down in the road..it is so small that it could easily have been run over. I stopped the car and it didn't move, so I picked it up, put it in the car and brought it home. It now has a full belly, but all it's little bones stick out. Luckily, it is long-haired so it doesn't look too bad. It is very affectionate with people but is not used to other cats or dogs. I plan to keep it for perhaps a few weeks or a month to get it used to other pets and then take it into the Ottawa Humane Society. I have not seen any signs of it using the litter box yet, so that is another concern. I will try to post a pic of it on my Sparkpage later. We are calling it Pumpkin for now.
Once years ago we saw a cat and didn't take it home until too late and it died from malnutrition. Frodo is a cat that we found badly mauled in the middle of the road (the vet said that it wasn't run over, someone threw it out the window) and we nursed him to health and gave it to friends. Neiko is my fiesty little black kitten that was abandoned and so starved that she miscarried all over my couch when we brought her home (we neutered her as soon as we could). Plus we have given several cats to the humane society (the last was a mom and 6 kittens, most of whom had to be put down because they were in such bad condition). So now, I don't have any qualms about donating the abandoned kittens/cats we find to the Humane Society as long as I keep them long enough to fatten them up and get them healthy enough so that they are not put down when we give them to the society. I don't mind fostering our furry friends for a while, but there is really no way we can keep them all.
I still don't get how anyone can be so cruel as to abandon a pet. Oh well, little Pumpkin will be fine. We'll foster her long enough to get her/him in good shape and when I post the pic it will be obvious that this cutie will find a good home.
