Crazy Summer and Other Stress Inducers

Friday, July 09, 2010

Every year I go to my Dad's, several states away from my home, for most of the summer. Usually, my hubby goes with me for the first three weeks and then he flies home and I stay until September.

Well this year, hubby isn't going with, and worse decided to take one of his week's of vacation the week before I planned on leaving. So here we are four days before I am supposed to leave and I am trying to get the house clean, laundry done so I can pack, keep hubby occupied so he isn't bored, and still trying to get in exercise and healthy food. It isn't going so well.

Today was weigh in day. Only once this week did I go over calories, by I think 300 calories, otherwise I have been well within range and I gained .6 of a pound. UGH. I am sure it has to do with getting in not nearly the amount of walking I have been doing. I will be lucky to get in 6 miles of walking this week. I did add a day of Curves, but that just doesn't burn the calories of 3 miles with Leslie Sansone. Lesson learned, walk no matter what.

I am really looking forward to my trip this summer. My daughter and two granddaughters are driving up with me. My daughter and youngest granddaughter will stay for two weeks and then fly home. This leaves my oldest granddaughter with me for an additional three weeks. She will drive back with me then. I am not staying nearly as long this summer as I usually do, which is also causing me stress.

Besides going up to spend time with my Dad, and multitude of family and friends, I have a ton of things I try to get done there too. My Dad lives alone and refuses to have a house keeper come in. My sister-in-law does what she can, but she works full time so can only get up there every few weeks to clean the main rooms. He quit cooking for himself a few years ago, so I do a lot of major cooking and put up food for the year for him. I have only 5 weeks to do what I usually take 2 or 3 months to get accomplished.

I won't be on Spark People much until mid-August. Besides being crazy busy, my Dad lives in the land of no internet. I know really unheard of these days but that is how it is there. I can use the library when they are open, which is 8-5 four days a week, and I think 11-8 another. They are closed two days a week. Did I mention it is a really small town in the mountains? My Dad wonders why I will never move back there...no internet do I need to say more?

I did go through and print out three weeks worth of meals that I can mix and match for the five weeks. I also printed out a pile of recipes from Spark People. I will pick up my travel pass from Curves tomorrow so I can continue that. I am also taking my workout videos with. I will just have to be religious about starting my day with exercise before I move on too other obligations.

So I am stressed about getting everything done here and then there, but I am also looking forward to time with my family and friends. I may be able to check in now and again on my trips to the library after I get the Nutrition and Fitness trackers filled out. I hope you all have a safe and healthy summer and I will see you when I am back in mid-August.

I wish you a wonderful time with your Dad, your daughters and grandaughters as you spend time away from home.
May the time away not be stressful, but relaxing and productive for you.
I wanted to thank you also for taking the time out of your busy schedule to leave me an encouragement.
It meant a lot to me.

I really do hope that this will turn out well for you. Just remember the obstacles in our life have no power over us, except what we choose to allow. Keep a mental bucket handy and when one thing starts to overwhelm you, set it aside in that bucket to wrestle with later. I often find that when I go back to wrestle, the problem is smaller or has disappeared altogether.
Have safe travels and remember to Spark every chance you get!
