4th of July Fireworks and video

Monday, July 05, 2010

We had a great time at the fireworks and 4th of July celebration today!

We went around 4 pm, got a great spot right at our car:

We walked around a lot, visited the band they had playing:

They also had wagon rides:

There was so much to do. Lots of games and booths to visit. This year Disney radio was there with prizes and games for the kids. Funnel cakes and all sorts of food (I was good! Only ate what I brought).

This year it was me:

Meghan:

And Brandon and his girlfriend, Lisa:

We packed our chairs and 2 coolers full of yummy and healthy food and drinks. We talked, walked, danced and enjoyed ourselves until time for the fireworks.

The display is the largest in Northern Virginia. I've lived here my whole life and we never go anywhere else since we started going here about 5 years ago, it rivals the show in nearby Washington DC which we used to go to, although the entertainment and activities are much nicer in DC. Almost all of the show is like most places finales...it's literally almost non stop the entire time. The city uses it's own money, but for the last 5 years they have had an anonymous donor give a large sum of money that they use also, making it one of the biggest shows in the entire DC MD VA Metro area.

Tonights started right at 9:15, but after about 5 minutes, it abruptly stopped. All of a sudden, we saw the firetrucks racing towards where they are set off. We saw smoke and flames, but it quickly went out and after about 10 minutes the music and show restarted. I have no idea what happened, but whatever it was, it was over very quickly. I hope no one was hurt. We sit pretty close to where they are set off as you can see in the pics and videos...

Here are a few of the pics:

It was a very enjoyable day :-) I hope everyone else had a wonderful 4th!

Loved the video & pics! We didn't go to see the fireworks this year. Usually we park on the side of the road near Old Town and watch. We had friends over @ 4:30 and enjoyed good food and played cards until late in the eve. Unfortunately, it wasn't all healthy.

Hi Just want thank you for peeking in on me! We watched the Manassas fireworks also. We did not go all the way into Manassas. We drove up 28 to Wellington Rd, there is a small shopping center and people were relaxing in chairs so we joined them! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Loved the video of the fireworks. We went to see the fireworks on Quantico Marine Corps Base. We sat in the sun for 3 hours to see 15 minutes of fireworks. They were okay but maybe we will have to go to Old Town Manassas next year. Sounds like they might be much better. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like you guys had a blast! emoticon We ended up parking in this grassy area not quite in front of Ruby Tuesdays. We actually saw the stadium and there were 3-4 sets behind us too. Emma was sticking her body through the sunroof emoticon She really enjoyed it!

The heat's coming back full force, isn't it? Is it possible I can ride with you on Saturday?

Hope you have a fantastic week!

We went to the PNats game on Saturday and stayed for fireworks after. Thought about going to watch the stadium fireworks again on the 4th, but decided to stay home and not head out in to the madness. Sounds like you had fun, will have to look in to this for next year!

I lived out in Manassas Park last year, and watched the fireworks there last year... they were awesome. We had planned on staying in last year because I wasn't feeling well, but then about 5 minutes before the show started, we changed our mind. We planned on just driving around, but found an empty parking lot with a great view of the show. It was great because we were able to go at the last minute, and then get home quick!

This year we were really disappointed that we couldn't find any good fireworks shows in the area (Lorton)... this was the one thing we found that we missed about Manassas Park!

Looks like a great time! We have a boat on Potomac by Pentagon so we headed down with the entire family about 6, loaded everyone on boat and anchored close to monument. Fireworks were glorious! 3 year old granddaughter mesmerized (and not afraid! LOL). Great time--we are all exhausted this morning!
