Dropping 40 by 40

I always forget how old I am. Currently it's 39. Usually I'm reminded by a friend's birthday. If not then it is something like their kid is getting married or having a child. Until I hear that the kid is still the five year-old I last seen. Now wait...if they are 20 now that means...ugh. emoticon

So I'm coming up on forty years-old. It's not that big of a deal I guess, everyone who lives to at least 41 does it. What is a problem is how I looked down in the shower recently and couldn't see my feet. What is a problem is the fact that I could easily be 240lbs when I hit 40 if something isn't done about it.

Just ten years ago I was working as a trainer in a gym and living a somewhat healthy lifestyle. My weight moved around between 185-190. I started smoking (8 yrs off it) and drinking ( again2 yrs off it) again. Stopped working at the gym, which was the best way to get me there. It was around this time I got together with my wife.

After getting married and when my wife was pregnant with our son I guess I gained that sympathy weight they talk about. When getting a physical for a new job about six and a half years ago I weighed in at 230. WHAT!?!? How did that happen?

I was able to tame that down to around 200 again. I was maintaining that for a while. Stopped the smoking and drinking again. About 20 months ago when starting a "Biggest Loser" competition at work I started at 207. During the competition I was able to get down to about 197, the last time I remember being under 200. Now...227.4 was the last weigh in.

227.4 lbs. That was 20 lbs I gained in around 20 months. There is no reason I shouldn't think I will be 240 by March 6th 2011 if things continue as they are. So, I have decided to take action and go in the other direction.

It's simple really when I think about it. I have a bad back, bad knee, and a six year-old boy I need to keep up with. All of these things are impacted by my weight gain, even maintaining the weight I'm at. All of these things can be made easier by losing weight. Look at that, and the kids say they won't use math later when they are forced to do it in school.
