a moment of silence for...........

Thursday, July 01, 2010

the hundreds of thousands that died in the genocide in Rwanda a few years back.Lest we forget that there are people out there who have literally fought to survive and more others who are still doing so.For the victims of HIV/Aids more especially the women whose partners and husbands and boyfriends did not love them enough to take care not to pass on the virus to them. For the hungry child who has died or is dying in a refuge camp somewhere in Africa or the Asia or South America whilst the mother looks on helplessly. For the victims of September 11 and their families who were not part of the war but suffered gruesomely at the hands of vicious unfeeling men who call themselves soldiers and loyalists fighting for a just cause. For the cancer sufferers, persons with heart diseases, diabetes sufferers. For the victims of natural disasters, the hurricanes, the tsunamis the earthquakes. For all these people and all who make a tiny but also a significant part of our mankind.Oh God Jehovah when is this going to end. Man has dominated men to his injury says the Bible. When shall such lawlessness come to pass? When shall this disregard for life end?

Life is precious and the meaning of those words only become real when you feel the pain of losing a loved one in any of the above tragic circumstances.I am debating whether to eat the loads of food in front of me. Whining about it as of it is worth anything when somewhere out a child is not faced with such a choice because the food is just not there to be able to pick and choose. In fact it is a choice between life and death.Do I really want to kill myself with all that food? Imagine the persons I could feed with the amount of food on my plate, servings enough for three or four people. No one would die of hunger.

Let me then be grateful each and every time there is a plate of food in front of me.Let me when there is a plate of food in front of me , be able to make do with just enough to keep me healthy.I do not need this amount of food to live.let me make the choice now ,today to eat to live and not live to eat. Let me value the gift of life because somewhere out there is someone who was not able to make that choice.

If each and everyone of us could eat just enough to keep us healthy and do just enough exercise to keep us fit, we would have found the key to happiness and health, says a old historian.I would take a moment of silence for me in years to come if I dont make healthy choices now. I choose life.
