Knee, Consider Yourself Warned!

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Exercise has been reduced this week due to problems with knee pain. I had to skip three days of activity and baby my knee, since it hurt to bend it at all.

Yesterday I went to the gym with the attitude that I would try the elliptical at a slow pace and see how much it hurt, promising myself that if it hurt a lot that i would STOP. I do tend to be compulsive, and I know that I can overdo things, so stopping sometimes takes discipline.

So I got on the ellliptical. The knee hurt a little, but after it warmed up, it hurt less and less. So I continued on the elliptical for 30 minutes and did some upper body strength training. I wondered, will pay the price later? I showered and left the gym, with my knee feeling even better than when I arrived at the gym.

This morning brings only slight pain when walking, but climbing stairs is still painful. I think the knee is on the mend.

I am ordering my knee to shape up by July 4, because I am doing the Peachtree 10K anyway. Oh, I know that if I am hurting that day that I will be doing it more slowly, but I will do it. My plane ticket is bought, my family is picking me at the airport, and our family tradition will continue. It is about a one mile walk from the finish back to the hotel, and if I count the walk to the start of the race, it will add up to about 8 miles total that day. SO, KNEE, CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED. YOU WILL COOPERATE!

Okay, Babe, which knee is it?? That info is so that my Right Knee -- the gnarly crackledy achey one -- and I can send encouraging vibes to your tender midleg zone for your Annual Achievement. The Knee Attached to Me does better with a bit of warming exercise, too, usually. Weather is a big factor with its temperament and its pinchy-fits, as well. Shall send subtle cyber-persuasions to the Peachtree Track to wait for you and keep you going! Only 8 miles, you say --- PFFFT!! Piece o'cake for you and Kneezie, and I mean that!
