Oklahoma City Memorial 1/2 Marathon

The next weekend my husband, friend Joanna and I were off to participate in the 10th running of the Oklahoma City Memorial ½ Marathon. It was a very nice weekend. We spent some time with Joanna's family which added a relaxation factor to the weekend that was different. The race start area was a bit hectic and could have been a bit better organized, but once it started things improved immensely. The course was hillier than expected.

The first hill...

What made it fun were all the spectators. There was one hill through a ritzy neighborhood that the locals had named Gorilla Hill.

This was Joanna’s first half since having issues after doing one last year. I know everyone was concerned about how she would do, how she would feel. Joanna had a great race during the first 10 miles and battled some cramping the final 3 but she finished well with a good time that was 20 minutes faster than last year’s race. My husband had some hamstring/glute issues but did well. I finished a bit faster than the previous race but even better I felt good.

The evening after the race we went to visit the memorial park. A sobering experience to say the least.

There is always a reason behind races, this one was different.

You did great again. Now I know why you rested today. I was looking for the hills LOL. if you ever make it CA and some of the races they do here, you will real hills. Just joking, all hills are a killer if your walking, jogging or running to make a time limit. emoticon emoticon
