Setting My New Goals (And How Far I've Come)

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Today at the gym, in between sets, I wrote down a few of my new important goals. I also got to thinking about how far I've come since joining SP. I've taken a rather lazy approach to my weight loss until the first of the year.

I re-dedicated myself to losing weight and getting myself into shape this year. And it has been working - I weigh less than I did when I got divorced back in 1997. A few of the other good side effects have been that I have had to buy new pants. When I went shopping, I was wearing a 14 so I tried on size 12, but they were too big, so I dropped down to a size 10 (which was one of my original goals). I was with my grandson and we did the happy dance in the dressing room. I also thought I would try running longer distances on the treadmill, so I thought I would try 15 minutes, but when I got to 15 I figured I could go on to 25, which I did. Then the next week, I tried 30 minutes and did it!! I don't know why all this came as a surprise, but it did. I was running in the 4's, so I thought it would be really hard to go to the 5's, but I did it and even made it up to 6 mph. I never thought I would be able to run that fast, but I can - even if it's only for a minute or so. I'm just going to keep going.

One of my new goals include putting myself out there and try dating. I haven't dated since I was in high school (gas cost just $0.35 a gallon - that's how long it's been), so this should be interesting.

I now realize that if you "just do it" instead of waiting for it to come to you, things will fall into place.
