Summer Day Camp Day 1

Monday, June 14, 2010

Today was day one of my 8yr old son's cub scout day camp. I am the main walking leader for my group of eight boys for the week. Luckily for me this was year two, so I kind of knew what to expect. (and Hooray, I have several parent helpers this year!!!)

I remembered:
the hot sun (I was prepared with strong sunscreen and decent hats)
the high humidity (plenty of water)
hungry 8 year old (plenty of healthy food)
small injuries (mini first aid kit)
bugs, bugs, bugs (bug spray)
lots and lots and lots of walking (decent shoes)

I wasn't prepared for:
heavy rains right before camp started (lots and lots of slippery, sticky mud... everywhere)
the child who lost his lunch (we all shared until it was found, someone in another group accidentally took it)
huge puddles IN the canoes (lots of wet wet kids)
how tired I am right now (I forgot!)

Good thing I planned a week of healthy lunches to take to camp, easy breakfasts each morning, and lots of prepared dinners and crockpot meals (also healthy!) Oh, and we get a week of plenty of fresh air and exercise! (It is one and a half miles from one end of camp to the other, and very very hilly!)

Now I need to finish sparking and go get some much deserved sleep!

Kids love to brag about their adventures, especially if they are wet, muddy and sweaty. Thank you for taking the boys on this adventure!
