Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

My gym guy talked me into signing up for a 5k race last Saturday. I have to say I was pretty apprehensive about even having a go at a 3 mile run! Admittedly, I didn't run the whole way, but probably at least 2.5 miles of it with only I think two walk breaks to make my calves stop aching. I didn't have too much trouble keeping my breath, which was what I thought would have the hardest time keeping up. I even had enough juice for a sprint during the last eighth of a mile or so.
All told, I finished in around 33 minutes, which isn't great but certainly isn't horrible, either. Running with hundreds of other people definitely added a new level to the workout. Instead of just plodding along on the treadmill or trail until I've had my fill, the other people help keep me motivated. It was encouraging to pass the others, and watching some pass me gave me a boost to keep going.
I don't think that I'm ready for another one just yet, but I'm going to keep training so that I can run a 5k w/o walking. And I've decided to keep all my numbers from the races in a binder as a momento of actually achieving something I thought I'd never do... I'm not a runner! But I've managed to get running nonetheless :)
