I'm shorter??

Saturday, June 12, 2010

Has this happened to anyone else? For years I've been going off my high-school height assuming that, being only 31, it was still valid. That height was 5'8.

Since high-school I gained 70lbs, and now I've lost 85 (so I'm lighter than I was in high-school!). But apparently along the way I've also lost 2 inches in height, making me 5'6!!!

What this directly means, of course, is that I've been calculating my goals and BMI based on my 5'8 height, making me 5lbs overweight. When I recalculate it off of my real height, I'm FIFTEEN LBS overweight again!!! Breaks my heart. I haven't changed it for my Wii or Sparkpeople yet, but I guess I should eventually...

As I said in a prior post, losing that weight is going to have to wait on other things, but since I've already lost so much... I know I can do it. It just seems so cruel that BMI is based off current height, not where you were when you started...

    No, I haven't, but I don't THINK that's a problem - I still eat loads of calcium-rich foods and take supplements.. and as I said, I'm only 31!

I talked to my mom, and she said that someone must have mis-measured me at 5'8... she thinks the tallest I've ever been was 5'7 because I've always been shorter than her. I think that's just because she always wears platform clogs and heels :D
