5k goals part 2

I skipped out on my friend's Sunday night run (she wanted to do a timed 5k, I wanted to do an easy 2 or so since I had run longish Saturday) and ran this morning. Nice breeze, beautiful morning. I ran 3.1 about 30 seconds slower than I did on Saturday (gotta get Bodyglide or ALWAYS wear tights/bike shorts. Yeah, TMI, I know - but that chub rub on the thighs was no fun!)

My other a-ha experience of the morning was that I have been training almost completely on roads or paved paths.... the race on Saturday is mostly gravel. I ran a little on gravel today and it was a little slower going. Guess I should've thought about that a while back to train more on gravel. Oh well, maybe race-day adrenaline will even it out.

I also have been figuring out my Garmin 305 more and now have it tell me my split/lap time at every mile. It is so cool! Before I was just getting my overall pace. I love having it broken down and it will help me plan for races better.

There is a growing group of new runners in my church. We were at a kids' birthday party yesterday and were talking about our training and plans. Very fun. We are all pretty slow and new to this, but it is fun to have encouragement to take care of ourselves!!
