A snarky week, but it's all good!!

Saturday, June 05, 2010

Gosh what a snarky week! I survived a wicked cold/flu thingy just to be hit with a bout of some severe gastrointestinal distress. Jeez Louise! I am still fired up though - before I got taken down on Tuesday with all this crud, I weighed in to discover that the weight loss thing was happening again! And maybe it doesn't really "count" because I didn't get to exercise this week, but I've lost another kg. This puts me at my half-way mark for fat loss! I really want to believe that this week's loss was my revved-up metabolism continuing its good work, even though physical activity was at a minimum all week long. Whatever the reason, I'll take the weight loss!

This week I kept drinking tons of water, and made sure I averaged about 1100-1200 cals per day, even while sick, until yesterday, when the stomach bug came a-knockin' (I think it was from something I ate) and I had to back off to about 800-900 fiber-free cals. Have been eating bananas (yum), white rice (yuck), and saltines (double yuck) all day. Ay yay yay, how I miss my clean whole foods, even after just one day!!

Tomorrow I'm going to run - whether it kills me or not - with my best buddy. He bought me new Nike's last week - is he a pal or WHAT!! I can't wait to sweat like I mean it again!!

This is my new gift:

Beauty, eh!!

Also, I'm going to post some progress pics on my page soon. I really want to believe that there is some visible difference after two months! Maybe it's just wishful thinking though... The important thing is that I feel AWESOME!! And over the last two months that I've been on SP, I've actually started paying more attention to how I feel instead of placing all my money on how I look. Surely, with patience and determination, the physical changes will all happen too, right?

I can definitely tell that I'm getting stronger, and that my cardio endurance has drastically improved. When I started at the beginning of April, ten minutes of moderate cardio felt like running through a pool of molasses with a cinderblock attached to my legs. Now, I'm all over HIIT like bees on honey, and running for 45 - 60 minutes seems almost like a cakewalk! My resting heartrate is 50, can you believe it?! Yes! I couldn't believe it either, but I took it every single morning for a month, and it is 50 beats per minute.

On Wednesday, I'll celebrate 100 days since I quit smoking. Nasty, nastier, NASTIEST habit, and I will cut off all my fingers before I EVER pick up a cigarette again. Period.

So, even though this week was a wash-out in terms of exercise, LIFE CONTINUES TO BE AWESOME!!! And I can't wait to get back in the saddle again tomorrow!!

Thanks all you wonderful SP buddies - thanks for such inspiration and awesomeness! And thanks to all of you who sent get-well wishes! That was gold!! This journey wouldn't be nearly as much fun without you all!!

Congrats on quitting smoking. June 21 will be my 20th anniversary of quitting. I smoked for 20 years and now I'll be quit for 20. (Well, I didn't smoke for the first 15 years!)

Be good to yourself when you're sick, though. My trainer won't let me exercise or work out when I'm sick. You need to use your body's resources to heal.

Oh my gosh! First of all, I CAN NOT WAIT to see those pix. You are doing amazing! While I am so sorry that you have been sick, I am happy for you to have lost some more weight. I agree, I think the modified diet with a revved up metabolism made that happen. Your fitness level is fabulous. Keep up the great work!

I will be looking for those pix! :)
