Off the chain

Thursday, June 03, 2010

Literally. The bike chain fell off just as I was pulling out of my driveway last night. I was on my first completely solo ride and have never fixed a bike chain before. I was tempted to just throw in the towel. But I didn't. I played around with the chain for a while and figured out how to get it back on. My hands were covered in grease so I had to go back inside to wash up. But I went back outside and got on the bike and rode 14.2 miles in an hour. At the very end I rode the whole way up the big hill on our street for the first time. I was in the lowest possible gear and going about a mile an hour but I did it!

*I* am off the chain!

Woohooo!!!! Well done! I live in Holland (land of more bikes than people!) and I've never even fixed a chain before. Luckily for me, my Dutchie husband is very handy with bikes. And great job on the hill!
