I am not a picture person. But for some reason, I asked someone to take this one.
Last week, in preparation for the long weekend and barbecues and beach fun, I went to the store to find a bathing suit. I did so because I had an invitation for a beach picnic and unfortunately the swimsuit I love to death no longer even slightly fits. I haven't worn that bathing suit comfortably since 2005, and so I haven't worn a bathing suit since then either. Sad, but true. I just avoided the situation. I couldn't stand seeing AND "feeling" the actual evidence of the fact that I was gaining weight, you know? So now that beloved bathing suit is sadly faded out of its glory.
So back to last week.
First, I drove home and parked my car. Then I changed, and strapped on my sneakers and a knapsack. Then as I walked back outside, I forewent my car and walked the 3.4 miles to the store. It was great. Had my ipod and a bottle of water and just took it slow and steady. 300 cals! Anything to bust this three month plateau of mine ( at 199 lbs).
When I got there, I surprisingly found a suit that looked good on my pear shape frame. Shocker...(lol) But it was a might too small... a size medium. So I go in search for a large. People (sigh)... sometimes I feel like the stars are completely against me. I swear I found every other swimsuit style in a large, extra large. But the one I wanted?? Oh no.... course not....(laughing)
Anyway. So I went back to the dressing room, and just said, "You know what? I'm gonna 'own it'. Rolls and thighs and all." So I took the size medium swimsuit to the register and just bought it.
I walked back home (the long way) 5.5 miles, another 300 cals! And it was done. I actually walked to and from the store. Crazy. Think I'll do it again.
Sunday came. I put the swimsuit on and made no apologies to anyone. Thunder thighs, rolls, belly and all. I didn't cover up at all for anyone except the mosquitoes (they were vicious). So just being in this snug medium size bathing suit in public was my extraordinary thing.
And you know what? I had a great, great day. I was invited to this picnic at the beach and so for the first time in years I wasn't alone on a holiday. It was nice... (smiling) Meant a lot.
Plus I got to enjoy some BBQ food and I felt great in the swimsuit.
I didn't know many people but I asked someone to take this one picture. So, I feel good about the progress I've made. I plan to wear this swimsuit again. And maybe in 2 or 3 months, I'll actually comfortably fit into it.... ha... there's a concept!
I hope everyone had a great, long weekend, surrounded by family and friends...
...for reading. Leave me a note... I love that!
