Reflections of May' s Successes, Challenges and Achievements and June's Goals

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

Well another month is here and gone! emoticon In May I started out strong, and wanted to do so much! I stayed sick quite a bit this month emoticon. I had set high achievement goals! They did not get accomplished, but you know what I have realized? This problem did not get here overnight, and I do not intend to beat myself up over it emoticon!

What I achieved this month was still an accomplishment in my emoticon way of thinking! Here goes:

(1) I use to walk down the hall at the hospital and have people pass me, and say excuse me! (They made me sick!!! emoticon )
Now, they don't pass me, some of them I pass, and I don't say "Excuse me! " I just look at them as to say "Move it, or Lose it emoticon!!!!!

(2) I use to not be able to walk very much at all! My foot hurt, my knees hurt! Whine, emoticon , whine emoticon , whine! I try and walk now only 15 minutes at a time, and then try 15 minutes more later! This is walking at a fast pace constantly for me! I use to hate to walk because of the perspiration that would just pour off me! (I hate to sweat... I know ... No pain, No gain!)

Well, what I did to shake this was I made me a path from one end of the hospital to the other, and it is a-i-r c-o-n-d-i-t-i-o-n-e-d emoticon! No sweat on this mama, just fast paced see how fast I can go fun! At least walking is back into my life again emoticon!

(3) After being out of my life for 2 to 3 weeks of this month, my swimming pool at the gym now is one of my favorite of all places in the world to be! I feel like I have come to a vacation resort in the Tropics that just makes my body and soul feel better and stronger everyday!

(4) Have I lost much weight? No, only 1 pound

(5) Other accomplishments: I measured this month and I have lost 4 and 1/2 inches total from different areas of my body!

(6) Can I tell any difference? Yes my clothes are beginning to drag, sag, and slip down emoticon! Some of them I have retired and brought out another size to replace and I am beginning to see the same thing start with them! This is enough for me to be happy!

June's Goal's
1- Drink as much water as possible (Something that is hard for me to do! I don't know why it is.... I must stay hydrated to reach my goals, and help with my constant UTI problem! Another reason is because it is so hot here in the summer!)

2- Try to up my fitness minutes to 1200 minutes a month.

3. Get better control of my diabetes, so hopefully I can get my life back! I am reading every thing that I can get my hands on and, trying anything that sounds remotely like it will help! I know my weight is the big issue and it's much harder to lose when you become diabetic, but it is going--- and one day I will be able to say "It Is Gone With The Wind!" Diabetes is something one day I would like to work with and help other people Conquer! First, I must conquer "My Giant"

4. Develop more "Patience!"

5. Become Unstoppable ( A tough one!)

" Believe that I can do anything through Christ, who strengthens me!"

You are moving forward and that is what counts. It's awesome that you have lost inches, and you recognize the accomplishment. And the walking faster also. We get so focused on the weight loss, that we forget to see the changes that are happening.

I think you are doing fantastic Mountain Buddy. Keep up the good work.

WWAD (What Would Andi Do) emoticon I probably shouldn't put that. Oh, the pressure.....

April, congrats on the exercise, and the inches lost and the pound down. You are doing all the right stuff, all you have to do now is enjoy the ride because the weight will come off!
4 inches in a month sounds great to me. My stomach is still the largest part of my body. It seems my fat loves to hang on there till the bitter end. And all I can do about it is keep doing what I'm doing, and "have patience".
We'll get there! We are emoticon emoticon emoticon
PS I'm a walking turtle too!

Hooray for you April! I think you are doing very awesome! I like your determination! Last month the clothes are starting to feel baggy and so next month you will need to get something that won't fall off! I believe you can do this through Christ who can strengthen you too! Keep up the great work! Congrats on the 1 pound loss! You might think that's not much, but it is! And so much better than seeing the scale go up! Hooray for you!! Hooray! Hooray!! Hooray!!!

Despite some obstacles and setbacks, you are moving forward and making progress. One pound lost is better than none, so good for you. Maybe making little tweaks here and there will help you see better results on the scale. although your clothes are getting looser so your body is shrinking...lol.

You are so right. We didn't get in this shape and we aren't going to slim down overnight. You're doing it the emoticon way and that's slow and steady. Making small changes and being consistent will get you to your goal and ensure these changes are for a lifetime.

Can't help you out with the patience issue girlfriend...it's something I struggle with, too. Give it up to God and other than that, a lot of positive self-talk, I guess.

Wishing you all the best in June...you go, girl!

Don't worry about only a 1 pound loss...you can measure your success for the month of May in the fact that you are feeling so much better and that your clothes are looser and more comfortable to wear. I sweat alot, too, during and after exercise so I usually do it first thing in the morning to get it out of the way. I don't have a problem with my water intake and always cary my bottle with me...foun a great bottle that is insulated and sweatproof so the water is always nice and cold. I think you are doing a great job...maybe you have to tweak your calories a bit to get the results you want on the scale but if you continue walking and picking up the pace, the weight will come off... emoticon emoticon

I am a huge sweater (does that make me sound like a piece of clothing?). I guess I should say that I sweat a lot. I continue to sweat for a least an hour after I exercise - so I really need to time my workouts. I just say that I am an efficient cooler (does that make me sound like a ice cooler?). Being in A/C does not help me - but I bet the pool would - I need to think about that for me. I am glad that you have the pool as a cool exercise that you like to do and that makes you relax and feel tropic - that is a great feeling.

I think that you are right on track. You're right - the weight did not come on quickly and now you need to figure out how to take it off in a way that makes it permanent. And your accomplishments are significant. You are walking a lot more and at a better pace. You are going to the pool and enjoying it. Having exercise that you can maintain and enjoy is a big hurdle to lifetime health. And you did these in a month that you were sick and your dad was too. So you overcame personal and family health issues and still you improved.

April - you talked about water. I hate it too. I drink three glasses at one time - first thing in the morning. It gets a block of it out of the way. I do about two after lunch and fit my remaining three around the day. I don't drink much at night because i am up all night peeing.

And April - you did not talk about food - is that under control. Are you making plans to get it under control. If it is not what about tackling one meal and making it healthier.

I always think of you as a kind patient soul - it somehow comes across in your spirituality and how you care for your family. Maybe you need to look into that. Best of luck with these goals. Stay in touch.

You are working hard and doing great moving forward. We are Turtles so we go slow.

I never liked to sweat either. But it is a part of exercise. It does help cool you down if you don't have A/C. Well maybe not when it is humid outside. LOL

The bonus of losing weight and inches is buying new clothes or fitting into ones we grew out of. Mine are getting loose again and I know I have to replace them. I just hate clothes shopping.

You are doing a great job and have some doable goals. Keep up the great work.
I think patience is a hard one for many of us...it is for me. Continue taking one day at a time and you will be seeing great results over and over. WAY TO GO!!!

I hear you on the patience, girl - I could use some of that m'self, lol...

Like you, I don't like to sweat. I'm not sure it's really necessary, but at least if you have a) AC to walk in and b) a pool, then you can get the heart rate up some without having to get all hot and sweaty. Always a plus, thinks me. And yes, I like the fact that my clothes are getting loose and I have to 'downsize' more than whatever number happens to be on the scales. More than one way to tell the difference, ain't? :-D
