Ice, ice, baby

I am completely dependent on ice. Yesterday I ran and didn't have time to ice before work. I think the school nurse (where I work) thinks I am little nutty but I went in there for ice as soon as I got to work. It makes an amazing difference in my knee maintenance to ice after every run. Sometimes I ice again later in the day.

This morning I did not plan to need the ice. I was doing a simple band workout and felt a pop in my back (in the same spot where, die to arthritis in my spine, I was brought to tears for much of last summer). In my younger years I might have worked through it but I have learned my lesson: straight for the ice!

If you tend to need to ice frequently like I do, I highly recommend getting some of those nice, squishy, fabric covered reusable ice packs. SO much more comfortable than real ice. In a pinch I have used frozen peas, but then worry I might forget which ones have been thawed and refrozen and feed them to m y poor children ;).

    A thought for those days when frozen peas have to work in a pinch...I always take a sharpie and make a big X across the bag once I've used it for ice, so I can remember not to feed it to anyone :)

    I agree that icing really helps. I am glad you have found a way to cope. I still use my foam roller and it is helping me manage my hip problems. I haven't iced it though, so maybe I should try that after my workouts. I like to use peas too!!! I only have one package in the freezer and we haven't eaten them for a long time so I know which ones they are. I hope Darren doesn't try to cook them when I am not looking though! LOL!

    Those ice packs are wodnerful. I totally agree, ice is so beneficial!
